He tries hard, so he is good. Apparently.

Waived one bottom six player in favor of another bottom six player. The difference will be the same as it always is when this type of move happens: negligible.

That's the motto of the Buffalo fanbase.

If I am not mistaken the Sabres still have one too many players on the roster. Tropp is still on the roster for 24 hours. Yes? No? Anyone know?

I believe that he is technically "off the roster" once he is placed on waivers.

Like I said in Garth's blog responses:

The Sabres are bad. them waiving a 4th line player in Tropp -- who cares? So the guy can hit and has "heart". You know what? He is a -8 in 9 games played so far. He also has a history of injuries (torn ACL, broken jaw, concussion).

We tend to fall in love with players here because they "play hard and pour their heart and soul into the game". While that is important, it isn't the only thing you need. Eventually the Sabres need talented players who play hard. Waiving a 4th liner who is injury prone isn't a big deal, and won't "come back to bite the Sabres".

I also like the claim we made with D'Agostini. I know he isn't a great player, but guess what he brings to the table: a veteran presence who is going to be working his arse off.

We know this because he is on the verge of being bounced out of the NHL (proof: he was just waived, and is now on his 5th team and is 29). He will have the work ethic and the want to win - something some of our veterans seem to be lacking.

From WGR

Nolan put Marcus Foligno on the fourth line and didn’t get the response he was looking for. Nolan said, “I think the hardest part of being at this level is the consistency factor. Some games he shows that power forward mentality and then some games he drifts off, but that’s all young kids do that. He’s got some good size, got some good ability now we’ve just got to utilize that on a game to game basis.”

Seriously just having well thought out answers about player movements is a huge plus having nolan around. Rolston just going all zombie on everyone and giving those weak rinse and repeat answers to his decisions infuriated me.

Love it

Hodgson, Ott, Stafford, Leino, Foligno, Adam, Flynn, Scott, Girgensons, Ennis, Grigorenko, D'Agostino, Moulson, Tropp (if still technically on the roster)

Myers, Ehrhoff, Pysyk, McNabb, Sulzer, Weber, McBain, Tallinder

Miller, Enroth

That makes 24. Anyone know the clarification on the rule of waivers? I was under the impression he could not officially be reassigned to Rochester until he clears waviers (24 hours). So therefore still on the roster here?

Not to mention, he obviously knows where the back of the net is, having popped in 21 goals for the Blues a few years ago.

Not on roster anymore.

I understand that. However is he or is he not still on the roster until the waiver period has expired? That is my question.

Now I'm not saying that at all. He has never been a great or even very good player.

I'm just saying he will now have that mindset of "I better prove myself or I'm done for good" which could light a fire under him and hopefully some others around him. He has that possible "veteran" presence, and not the mindset of "lets just get this season done and over with".

NO not on the roster has been waived... means he is in no mans land for 24 hours.....

Thank you that's all I was wondering. I didn't know there was a player purgatory!

He is not on roster.

You're over thinking this.

They have waived him. He is free game for a day for anyone who wants him. If not claimed, he'll be in Rochester, if they so choose. Either way, he is not on roster. They could perhaps waive/trade another player(s) and keep Tropp with Sabres after 24 hrs, but that's unlikely.

edit: I see it has been explained in far simpler terms above.

For anyone wondering:

Matt D'Agostini HOCKEY NEWS SCOUTING REPORT
Assets: Owns a very good shot, NHL skating ability and a goal-scorer's mentality. Can be an asset if used on the power play. Has played all three forward positions in the NHL.
Flaws: Lacks size and strength to win corner battles consistently. Disappears for extended periods of time, so he must find a greater level of consistency. Struggles as a bottom-six forward.
Career Potential: Inconsistent, yet versatile scoring winger.

Although, at 6' and over 200 lbs. I have to disagree with the "lacks size to win corner battles" part.

Being on the roster is purgatory this year...
